How does a massage at Spalenza work?

You pick a style and a length, add an extra if you want one, and then tell your therapist the pressure you like and the areas to focus on. Online booking reserves 75 minutes for a 60-minute massage and 105 minutes for a 90-minute one.

  1. Pick the style

Swedish relaxes, deep tissue uses slow, sustained pressure on deeper muscle layers, and sports massage targets muscles strained by repetitive activity.

  2. Or go barefoot

In Ashiatsu, the therapist uses the feet and body weight to give deep, broad, even pressure. Silvane Spalenza, the owner, is trained in Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy®.

  3. Add an extra

Hot stones add heat to the muscles, aromatherapy uses essential oils, cupping uses silicone cups and can leave temporary marks, and paraffin warms and softens hands or feet.

  4. Set the pressure

Tell your therapist how firm you like it and about any injury, pregnancy or oil allergy. You can change the pressure at any time.

Who is massage therapy for?

Massage at Spalenza suits people with everyday muscle tension, people who train and want targeted work, and anyone who wants an hour to relax, alone or as a couple. It is not a substitute for medical care after an acute injury or surgery.

A good fit if you

  • sit at a desk and feel it in the neck, shoulders and upper back
  • run, lift or play a sport and want work on the muscles you use
  • want a quiet hour for yourself, or with a partner
  • are pregnant: book the prenatal massage

Not the right choice if you

  • have a fresh injury, fracture or recent surgery without your doctor’s clearance
  • have a fever, an infection or a contagious skin condition: reschedule
  • have a blood clot or take blood thinners: ask your doctor first

What do clients say about massage at Spalenza?

Recent Google reviews of Spalenza massage mention three things: help choosing the right style before the session, pressure adjusted to exactly what the client asked for, and deep tissue work on knots in the upper back and shoulders.

★★★★★

“I sit at a computer most of the day for work and have constant tension and knots in my upper back and shoulders. Erica helped me choose the right type of massage for my needs and did a wonderful job working the tension out of my back. I feel so much better after my appointment! Thank you Erica :)”

“I finally went to Spalenza Spa today for the 1/2 day massage and facial. Silvane, the owner of the spa could not have been any nicer! The message she gave was unlike any I had had before! She adjusted the pressure to exactly what I wanted, used hot stone, stretching, and literally put her whole body into it! It was a 90 minute message and would definitely do it again! It was amazing!! Pam did my facial and did a wonderful job! She patiently cleaned out my pores and while she was hydrating my face she did a wonderful hand, arm and neck message! She wrapped my feet in warm towels and messaged my feet and legs while another treatment was on my face. I can't wait to go back! I feel relaxed and wonderful!! Thank you both for your amazing work!”

Swedish, deep tissue or Ashiatsu: what is the difference?

The difference is pressure and how it is applied. Swedish is lighter and flowing, deep tissue is slow and firm on specific areas, and Ashiatsu spreads deep pressure over a wide area using the therapist’s feet.
